With January bringing unseasonably high temperatures in parts of the world and uncomfortably low temps in other parts, it's no wonder that so many of us will be particularly interested to hear what our favorite prognosticator, Punxsutawney Phil, will tell us today. Will he see his shadow and crawl back into his hole for six more weeks of winter? Or will he look around, relax in the haze and decide that spring has already sprung? Groundhog Day is celebrated in the US and Canada today, on a cross-quarter day between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox. Canadians will be equally anxious to know the predictions of Wiarton Willie, their albino groundhog.
February 2 brings us Groundhog Day, on which the antics of a furry rodent purport to predict whether winter is in its last throes or only midway finished.
diurnality
In animal behavior, diurnality indicates an animal that is active during the daytime and rests during the night. Animals that are not diurnal might be nocturnal (active at night) or crepuscular (active primarily during twilight, i.e., at dusk and dawn). Many animal species are diurnal, including many mammals, insects and birds. The diurnal pattern is often controlled internally by the circadian rhythm (endogenous rhythm) of the animal....
time loop
A time loop or temporal loop is a common plot device in science fiction (especially in universes where time travel is commonplace) in which time runs normally for a set period (usually a day or a few hours) but then skips back like a broken record. When the time loop "resets", the memories of most characters are reset (i.e. they forget all that happened). This situation resembles the mythological punishment of Sisyphus, condemned to repeatedly push a stone uphill only to have it roll back down once he reached the top, and Prometheus, condemned to have his liver torn out and eaten by an eagle each morning. The plot is advanced, however, by having one or more central characters retain their memory or become aware of the loop through déjà vu.
One well-known example of this is in the 1993 film Groundhog Day, although time loops had appeared in many fictional works prior to that.

philately, agapē, phillumeny, storgē
Storgē is the word for family love, such as the love of a parent toward a child. In social psychology, storgē is the form of love between friends.
For the most part, Storgē can be used as a term to describe the love between exceptional friends, and the desire to care compassionately for them....
Storgic lovers want their significant others to also be their best friends.
Storgic lovers place much importance on commitment, and find their motivation to avoid committing infidelity is to preserve the trust between the partners. Children and marriage are seen as legitimate forms of their bond....

Where would our spotlight be without Thomas Edison? Edison was a man who didn't believe in giving up; he said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Born on this date in 1847, the "Wizard of Menlo Park" received over 1,000 patents for things we consider indispensable today, such as the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph and the stock ticker. He created the first motion picture camera and the first copyrighted film, Fred Ott's Sneeze. Edison was hearing impaired from when he was young, and had only three months of formal schooling. But, luckily for us, he loved to tinker.

Quote: "There's a way to do it better. Find it."
